Terms of use
The terms under which Diurnal for macOS is provided. They are short on purpose: this is a small app made by a small team, and the terms should be readable in a couple of minutes.
Acceptance
By downloading, installing or using Diurnal, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, do not use the app.
Your licence
You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Diurnal on Macs you own or control, for your own use.
You may not:
- redistribute, sell, sublicense or rent the app, or make it available to others as a service;
- reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except where that restriction is prohibited by law;
- remove or alter any notice of ownership contained in the app.
The app, its design and its name remain the property of their owner. This licence transfers no ownership.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use Diurnal or its sync service to:
- break the law, or infringe anyone else’s rights;
- gain unauthorised access to any account, system or data that is not yours;
- interfere with the service, including by overwhelming it with automated requests or attempting to circumvent its limits;
- store or transmit malicious code.
Your account
An account is optional and only needed for syncing between Macs. You are responsible for keeping access to the Google account you sign in with secure, since it is what identifies you.
You are responsible for the content you create in the app. What happens to that content is described in the privacy policy.
Third-party services
Connecting a Google account is optional. When you do, your use of Google Calendar is governed by your own agreement with Google, and Google’s terms and privacy policy apply to it in addition to these terms. Diurnal is not responsible for changes Google makes to its services, or for interruptions originating there.

Availability
Diurnal works locally without any service, and that is deliberate: if the sync service is unavailable, the app keeps working on your Mac and settles its changes when it can reconnect.
No particular level of availability is promised for the sync service. It may be changed, interrupted or discontinued, and features may be added or removed.
No warranty
Diurnal is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. It is not warranted that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will meet your requirements.
Keep your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, no liability is accepted for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising out of your use of or inability to use Diurnal.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Ending this agreement
You may stop using Diurnal at any time by deleting it; signing out first removes that Mac’s local copy of your data. This licence may be terminated if you materially breach these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (ownership, warranty disclaimers and liability limits) do survive it.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the app changes. When they are, the effective date at the top of this page changes with them, and continuing to use Diurnal after that means accepting the updated terms.
